Supporting corporate security & employee safety objectives through strategic stakeholder engagement

THE ISSUE
Company executives at this Fortune 500 national retailer (company confidential) were concerned about employee safety at one of their corporate offices in Downtown Los Angeles due to a series of security incidents impacting their employees, driven by homeless and mentally ill individuals in the area.

HOW WE HELPED
Hetty Group developed a law enforcement and community engagement playbook, including an educational stakeholder map and meeting guide with talking points to help their local corporate security managers build effective partnerships with the right stakeholders. We developed an overall strategy to position the corporate security team as informed, engaged, connected leaders within their company. 

​Outcomes:
  • The corporate security team established a strong working relationship with the appropriate members of the Los Angeles Police Dept, leading to extra patrol support for their corporate neighborhood 
  • The corporate security team was introduced to a networking group for Downtown LA security professionals so they could remain connected and engaged with neighborhood security issues on an ongoing basis
  • The corporate security team was educated on the politics of the homelessness issue and how city officials + major stakeholder organizations were handling the issue from a policy and practical operations standpoint, so local leaders could react and plan accordingly.
  • The corporate security team partnered with a Downtown LA nonprofit organization and the LA Police Dep’t to host a special shopping event in their retail store for homeless teenagers as part of their corporate giving effort. This activity built brand equity and gave corporate employees an opportunity to actively engage stakeholders in the Downtown LA neighborhood.​
